Testimonials

My mother's tiles were old and ugly, as she has been living in the same house her entire life without ever really taking care of her tiles. I called Tile Cleaners to get advice on what to do with them. They came to her house the next day to have a look at my mum's tiles. I am very satisfied with how patient and highly professional you were with my mother. I am sorry I couldn't be there when you arrived, and I am really impressed by how you managed to explain everything to my mom and help her out. Thank you for doing a great job.

Angela Coopers, Concord, NSW

I just got new tiles laid in my house that were very expensive. I needed to get them sealed but couldn't afford to pay much for it. On the other hand I didn't want to go for a company offering cheap and unreliably services. My boss recommended Tile Cleaners, saying that the company's prices were reasonable and that they offered quality service when he used them. I contacted them and ended up doing a booking with them. It is very pleasant to know that there are companies out there who actually care about providing very high quality services for affordable prices. I gave your contacts to my sister. Thank you for the job you did

Robert Williams, Norman Park, QLD

When I moved into my new house, I was shocked by how dirty and old the tiles in the entire house looked. I wasn't sure if they were supposed to be like that or if they were just really dirty. I decided to call Tile Cleaners and ask them to have a look and tell me what I could do to improve the look of my tiles. Tile Cleaners ® came the same weekend and managed to make my tiles look brand new. They also informed me that the sealer would protect my tiles for years to come. Amazing! Thank you guys! My floor looks gorgeous.

Why Clean Grout?

With the increase in use of tiles and natural stone by both architects and the general public in recent years cleanliness has become rather problematic. General off the shelf cleaners and a mop may appear to be working when the surface is new but eventually the dirt and soil begins to build up, tiles start to look bland, grout lines loose their colour and can start to turn black.

On running your finger along a grout line it will probably feel greasy, this is due to constant mopping or conventional cleaning which tends to loosen the dirt, move it around and then deposit it in the grout lines. Until now there has been no real solution, people have either accepted the surface can't be cleaned totally and put up with it or in extreme cases rip out the tiles and replace them.

A New Approach To Tile & Grout Cleaning

The technology and equipment used is completely new to the market and has been developed in conjunction with a range of cleaning products that further enhance the efficiency of our system. Using a combination of heat, water pressure, detergents and vacuum the surface can be thoroughly and deeply cleaned and sanitised with all debris being removed rather than moved around and then deposited again.

Once the surface has been thoroughly cleaned it can then be treated to help prevent the build up of contamination again. Grout lines can either be clear sealed or colour sealed. Clear sealing involves applying a colourless protective treatment, this is not a coating that sits on the surface but an impregnation that not only seals, but allows the grout to breath as well. It is recommended that all natural materials are clear sealed, limestone, sandstone, travertine and slate to name but a few. The clear seal helps prevent contamination from spillages of tea, coffee, wine, beer etc, it also prevents the build up of algae, moss and verdigree when used outside.

The secret to great looking tiles is great looking grout. Grouts are porous and, as a result, they easily absorb grease, dirt and lime scale. Spillages such as wine, lemonades or any greasy substances could cause marks and patches in the joints in the floor. Grout between wall-tiles, particularly in damp areas like bathrooms, could and will become dirty and unattractive as a result of Mould, Mildew and Limescale.

Mould is one of the most unsightly problems, it usually starts off in the wettest area of the room, like the bottom of the shower or bath, and if left unchecked it could spread to cover a large area of the wall.

In bath or shower areas, continued use of acid formulated shampoos and soaps will cause discolouration of grout joints, causing yellow orange and pink stains to appear on the grout over time, so you should protect your grout using a sealer which forms an invisible barrier between the grout and the surface, protecting your investment for years to come.

In general, porous flooring such as Terracotta should be sealed every two to three years to lock in the beauty of the tile and protect it from wear. Mexican terracotta in particular is very porous and difficult to clean. Mexican Terracotta does not get baked in a kiln, instead they are left to bake outside in the sun and if it is a cloudy day the temperature can fluctuate leading to an increase in the porosity of the tile.

The Tile Problem

Seemingly smooth surfaces become scratched and dulled from daily abrasion that in turn creates micro hiding places for dirt, oils, and bacteria. The condition worsens in a short amount of time and creates an unacceptable floor that cannot be cleaned by mop and bucket. When you wax over this ugly surface it only seals in the worn dirty look.

The newer ceramic tile flooring creates a problem on two fronts. First, the tile surfaces are engineered with more texture than ever before making the mop less useful and effective. Secondly, and even more noticeable and problematic, the grout between the tiles has even more texture to trap dirt residue left by mopping.

The Grout Problem

The problem is the cementatious lime based grout easily absorbs moisture, oils and sugars that in turn attract bacteria, dirt and other solids that change the overall appearance by darkening the grout. Other porous surfaces like brick, Italian quarry- tile, limestone and other engineered flooring all acts like concrete or grout, absorbing liquids, oils and dirt to a point that their appearance also darkens with time.

Chemicals can dilute the grime well enough, but without effective removal the formed slurry only soaks deeper into the grout. Rotary scrubbers fail to reach into the grout lines or the texture of the tiles. Tile and grout is often associated with food halls, restaurants, rest rooms and leisure areas. Dirty tile and grout is not aesthetically pleasing. More importantly it is unhygienic. Bacteria collects in the grout lines along with oils, food matter, sugars and moisture. The final "mop and bucket "of the day further exasipates the problem further adding more moisture and dirt.

Historically this has been tackled by either labour intensively scrubbing with nail brushes and detergents or accepting that after a number of years lifting and relaying the tile and grout surface. This is clearly:

  • Very expensive
  • Lost business while establishment is closed
  • Disruption to clientele and staff
