Testimonials

We got our tiles more than 25 years ago. We were told that we had a solvent sealer on our tiles, which apparently most companies wouldn't be able to strip off. However we rang a couple of places to check them out. No luck. A friend of mine recommended Tile Cleaners. We rang the guys and they agreed to have a look the next day. We decided to go ahead with the job after getting a satisfactory quote. The Tile Cleaners team stripped and resealed our old tiles. We are very grateful for your help guys. Thank you again

Olivia and Andrew Clark, Hornsby, NSW

My mother's tiles were old and ugly, as she has been living in the same house her entire life without ever really taking care of her tiles. I called Tile Cleaners to get advice on what to do with them. They came to her house the next day to have a look at my mum's tiles. I am very satisfied with how patient and highly professional you were with my mother. I am sorry I couldn't be there when you arrived, and I am really impressed by how you managed to explain everything to my mom and help her out. Thank you for doing a great job.

Outdoor tiles are excellent for decorating the garden, patio or around the exterior of the house, around the swimming pool and of course many other areas. They help create character, enhance the current colour and design scheme and complement outside fixtures. Outdoor tiles help create a mood, organise an otherwise cluttered space and create visual focus, regardless of the size of the area.

Are outdoor tiles different?

Outdoor tiles vary greatly, while some are made to be sturdy and withstand a great deal of exposure from UV, rain and other elements, common varieties such as limestone and bluestone are naturally very porous and will require sealing. Tiles that are constructed to withstand the elements will also require some protection on your part. Over time, it's common for outdoor tiles to suffer from a wide range of different problems, including staining, cracking and more. By sealing your outdoor tile, you protect your tiles against damage and extend their life.

Sealing outdoor tiles

Outdoor tiles are exposed to weather and the elements, including sun, rain, wind and frost. Therefore, it is important to determine whether the type of tile you have outside is a tile that requires sealing or not. In general, all porous tiles do require sealing, especially outdoor stone tiles. It is also important to determine which type of sealer you will be using on your outdoor tiles, as different sealers can be used on outdoor tiles, and different sealers are required for different types of tile, which is why we always recommend consulting a professional even if you have decided to do it yourself, as using the wrong type of sealer can mean the sealer on the tiles will start to wear off within a few weeks of application, which will require further work to remove and reapply again correctly, wasting your precious time and money.

Types of sealers used on outdoor tiles

Water based sealers and solvent-based sealer's can both be used on outdoor tiles, however unless absolutely required for a specific reason, we always recommend applying a water based sealer that is UV resistant and won't alter the slip resistance of your outdoor surfaces. Water based sealers do not produce dangerous fumes on application and removal, are a lot easier to apply and remove and also require less drying time.

It is however important to know which type of water based sealer to use on your outdoor tiles, as most water based sealers will not last long outside as they are designed for internal use, so it is important to use a water based sealer that is specifically designed for outside use.

You should always ensure that your tiles themselves are completely clean, before you attempt to seal the tile. This will protect the appearance of the tile, and help to ensure there won't be any dirt or other debris caught under the layer of sealant.

Penetrating Sealers

Penetrating sealers work by sinking into the substrate and protecting from within. They deposit either a natural or synthetic resin into the pores of the tile and once the sealer is applied, the water or solvent evaporates and leaves the resin within the stone, which then hardens to form an invisible protecting barrier that prevents the stone from absorbing unwanted matter. The major benefit of penetrating sealers is that they allow the stone or tile to breathe and will never peel or scratch.

Tile Cleaners® recommend Australian Deepshield™ Deep Penetrating quality impregnating water based sealers for their outdoor tiles which are UV resistant and importantly wont alter the slip resistance of your surfaces, providing long-term stain resistance and reliability.

A deep penetrating impregnating sealer protects outdoor tiles and grout from water and oil based stains by chemically reacting with the surface pores to create a breathable protective barrier. An impregnating sealer such as Deepshield™ protects your outdoor tiles from absorbing stains while also resulting in cleaning and maintenance becoming much easier. A penetrating impregnating transparent sealer enters the pores of your stone and once cured will not change the look of the stone. A penetrating colour enhancing sealer is designed to enhance and enrich the natural look of stone surfaces.

Film Forming or Topical Sealers.

Topical Sealers form a film on the top of the substrate and provide a coating that protects against damage. The purpose of the sealer is to reduce the natural absorbency of the stone or tile so foreign materials will not sink in but will instead remain on the surface until they can be wiped away.

Gloss and colours can be added to these sealers along with hardeners and non slip grits if needed. Garage, office and factory surfaces really benefit from colour coating sealing.

deepshield moisture

Solvent based products are more difficult to apply and can create major problems when applied incorrectly as they are very hard to remove. Tile Cleaners® recommend our clients apply a long lasting water based sealer to their outdoor tiles. Topical sealer's (glossy plastic coating over the top of the tiles) are still used on outdoor tiles, but these older style sealers can trap moisture in the stone and make the surface slippery when wet. When a topical sealer wears in higher traffic areas, the entire surface usually needs to be stripped and re-sealed.

Anti-Slip Treatment

Tile Cleaners® provide effective anti-slip treatment for surfaces that become slippery when wet or have become slippery through frequent wear and tear, increasing safety around your home and business. Tile Cleaners® anti-slip treatment is not a coating, therefore, once the floor substrate has been treated no curing time or drying time is required. The floor can be walked on immediately following application, without the risk of slipping, reducing any downtime and preventing you from having to close your business.

Tile Cleaners® anti-slip solutions can be used on ceramic and porcelain tiles, terrazzo, marble and most other stone surfaces and we can provide a no-obligation demonstration and quotation. Our team of skilled technicians are both courteous and professional in providing your non-slip flooring treatment.

If you're interested in making your floors anti-slip and having them treated by our professional team, or would like any further information, please call us on 1300 771 201 or use our online enquiry form.

Patterned or coloured concrete look amazing when they are new. Unprotected, they can immediately begin to fade due to UV damage and quickly discolour when penetrated by foreign matter. Tile Cleaners® recommend sealing concrete for protection and to ensure your areas are much easier to manage and clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sealing requirements for different types of tiles can vary. In the case of ceramic or porcelain tiles, sealing is usually not necessary, but it's advisable to consult the manufacturer's guidelines for any specific recommendations. On the other hand, natural stone tiles like slate, marble, granite, or travertine typically require sealing due to their porous nature. Without proper sealing, these types of tiles can readily absorb liquids and become susceptible to stains. Therefore, it is important to consider the specific tile material when determining whether sealing is necessary for optimal protection and maintenance.

Sealing tiles and grout provides a range of benefits in terms of maintenance and preserving their appearance. Surfaces can be prone to deterioration and degradation due to factors like foot traffic, UV rays, moisture, chemicals, and impurities such as oil, grease, acids, and salt. These issues can lead to problems like cracking, pitting, scaling, spalling, delamination, dusting, discolouration, efflorescence, and salt damage. By using quality sealers like Australia's Deepshield™ deep impregnating range, you can prevent unsightly stains, discolouration, and maintain the overall look of your tiled floors for a longer period. Sealing acts as a protective barrier, enhancing the durability and longevity of the tiles and grout.

The recommended frequency for fully resealing tiles can vary depending on factors such as the type and quality of the sealer used and the expected lifespan of the sealer. It is advised to regularly assess the condition of the tiles and evaluate the effectiveness of the existing sealer. If there are visible signs of wear, staining, or diminished protection, it may be necessary to undertake a complete resealing process. The specific timing for resealing will depend on these factors, and it is important to consistently monitor the tile's condition and consult the manufacturer's guidelines or sealer recommendations to determine the appropriate intervals for full resealing.

The drying time required for a sealer to fully cure can vary depending on the specific product being used. In general, most sealers have a relatively quick drying time, with the surface becoming touch-dry within approximately 4 hours. This applies to both penetrating sealers and topical sealers. Penetrating sealers typically complete their curing process within 24 hours, while topical sealers may take up to 48 hours to fully dry. It is crucial to carefully follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer regarding the recommended drying time. Doing so ensures that the sealer properly sets and provides the intended level of protection. Adhering to the specified drying time will help guarantee the longevity and effectiveness of the sealer on your tiles.

No, it is not possible to apply penetrating sealers over existing topical sealers. This is because topical sealers create a barrier on the surface of the material, preventing effective absorption of the penetrating sealer. To achieve the desired results, it is necessary to remove any existing topical sealer before applying a penetrating sealer. By removing the topical sealer, you allow the penetrating sealer to penetrate the material and provide the intended protection and benefits. Removing the topical sealer ensures the maximum effectiveness of the penetrating sealer and optimizes the overall sealing process.

When a surface appears dull or matte, despite regular cleaning, it may indicate the need for cleaning, stripping, and resealing. This loss of luster suggests that the previous sealer has worn off and is no longer providing adequate protection. Another indicator is an increased susceptibility to staining, as the surface is no longer effectively shielded. Recognizing these signs is crucial, as it allows for timely action to prevent permanent staining and to restore the surface's visual appeal. By addressing these indications promptly, through proper cleaning, stripping, and resealing, the surface can regain its beauty and maintain long-term durability.

During the process of stripping and sealing surfaces, safety should be a top priority. Professional tile cleaning services, like Tile Cleaners®, understand the importance of safety and employ measures to mitigate potential risks. They use high-quality water-based products and advanced cleaning machinery to ensure effective cleaning solutions while safeguarding the integrity of the surfaces being treated. By prioritizing safety, these services provide a reliable and secure experience for their customers.

By choosing Tile Cleaning, you can have peace of mind knowing that the products used in the cleaning process are free from toxic ingredients.

When discussing floors, the term "strip and seal" refers to a procedure where the existing coating or sealer on the floor surface is removed, and a new sealant is applied. Over time, floors can become dull and lose their shine, diminishing their visual appeal. By undergoing the strip and seal process, it is possible to revitalize the floors and bring them back to their original condition. This method provides a cost-effective solution for rejuvenating worn-out surfaces, making it a preferable alternative to complete floor replacement.

When our professional team arrives to seal your floors, you can expect a thorough and transparent process. We will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the entire process, ensuring effective communication. The sealing process typically begins with the potential removal of any previous sealer, if necessary. The floor will then undergo meticulous cleaning and neutralization to eliminate dust, residues, and other substances that could affect the performance of the new sealer. Afterward, a fresh layer of sealer will be applied, allowing sufficient time for it to set and cure properly. This will restore your floors to their original appearance while providing enhanced protection. Additionally, the sealed floor will be easier to maintain, reducing the effort required for routine cleaning and upkeep.

The recommended frequency for sealing floors can vary depending on factors such as the type of sealer used and the amount of foot traffic on the tiles. Deep impregnating water-based sealers, like Deepshield™ Gold, are known to provide long-lasting protection for up to 15 years. However, topical sealers typically require reapplication every 3 years, although this can be influenced by factors such as heavy foot traffic or harsh weather conditions. Regular assessment of the floor's condition is important, looking for signs like patchy areas or increased susceptibility to staining, as these may indicate the need for resealing. For personalized guidance and more detailed information, it is recommended to consult professionals or providers such as Australia's Deepshield™ for assistance and inquiries.

Neglecting to seal floors can leave them vulnerable to potential damage. Without proper sealing, spills containing oil or harsh substances can penetrate the surface, resulting in permanent stains that are difficult to remove using regular household cleaning methods. It is essential to prioritize sealing in order to protect the fresh appearance and structural integrity of your floors. Sealing creates a protective barrier that guards against permanent staining and helps prevent accidental damage in the future. By investing in floor sealing, you can extend the lifespan of your floors' optimal appearance and enjoy the benefits of easier and more convenient maintenance.

The ideal time to seal your surfaces is right after their installation to proactively safeguard against accidental staining or damage. As for determining if your surfaces currently require sealing, keep an eye out for patchy areas where the sealant appears to be worn off or uneven. Additionally, if you observe that your tiles are staining more easily than before, it is a clear indicator that resealing is necessary to restore optimal protection and maintain the desired appearance.

Efflorescence is a phenomenon where salts migrate to the surface of porous materials during water evaporation, resulting in a whitish coating and potential damage to the surface finish. To effectively prevent efflorescence, it is crucial to apply a high-quality water-resistant sealer from a reputable range. However, it is important to note that efflorescence can also be influenced by factors such as water penetration. Therefore, it is essential to address any underlying causes of water penetration, such as repairing leaks or damaged grout, to effectively prevent efflorescence. By combining proper sealing with resolving the water source, proactive measures can be taken to minimize the occurrence of efflorescence and maintain the integrity of the surface.

Yes, it is possible to remove accumulated efflorescence from surfaces. We have the expertise and tools required for this task. Our process involves using effective efflorescence removers and employing specialized cleaning techniques. It is important to note that efflorescence is often caused by underlying issues such as leaks behind stones, tiles, or damaged grout lines. While we can successfully eliminate the visible efflorescence, it is crucial to address and resolve the root cause to prevent its reappearance in the future. By addressing both the efflorescence buildup and the contributing factors, we can restore the surface to its desired condition.

When selecting a sealer for tiles, it is crucial to consider factors such as the type of tile, its porosity, surface finish, and intended usage. Different tiles have varying levels of porosity and maintenance requirements. To ensure compatibility and provide optimal protection, it is important to take these factors into consideration when choosing a sealer. Seeking advice from professionals or tile sealing experts can help determine the most suitable sealer for your specific tile type and the conditions in which it will be used.

Typically, tiles receive 2 to 4 coats of sealer during the sealing process. However, the exact number of coats can vary depending on factors such as the desired finish and the specific characteristics of the tiles being sealed. Professionals consider these factors to determine the optimal number of sealer coats needed to achieve the desired outcome in terms of both appearance and protection for the tiles.

While sealing surfaces can provide a level of protection and allow for more time to clean up spills before staining occurs, it does not guarantee that surfaces will remain completely free from stains. Sealing creates a barrier that slows down the absorption of spills, giving you more time to clean or wipe them before staining sets in. However, prompt and proper cleaning of spills and dirt is still necessary to prevent potential staining. The effectiveness of sealing in stain prevention also depends on the type of sealer used, the porosity of the surface, and the nature of the substance causing the stain.

After the completion of the sealing process, surfaces are typically touch dry within approximately 4 hours. This means that you can walk on them and return most furniture items after this timeframe. However, it is important to note that you should avoid mopping or exposing the surfaces to moisture for at least 24 hours. During this curing period, the sealer requires time to fully bond and cure to achieve optimal effectiveness. Exposing the surfaces to water or excessive moisture before the sealer has fully cured can potentially wash off the sealer and compromise its protective properties. It is recommended to follow the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer or professional service provider regarding the recommended drying and curing times before resuming regular use and maintenance activities.

The effect of sealing on the surface's appearance can vary depending on factors such as the type of sealer used and the number of coats applied. Different sealers can produce different visual outcomes for the tiles. Some sealers may enhance the natural color and sheen of the tiles, while others may result in a more subdued or matte finish. It is important to consider your desired outcome and consult professionals for guidance in selecting a sealer that aligns with your aesthetic preferences and goals for the surface's appearance. By discussing your requirements, you can choose a sealer that enhances the overall look of the tiles to your satisfaction.

Organizing a professional to seal your outdoor tiles offers several benefits. Firstly, professionals have the expertise and knowledge to select the appropriate type of sealer for your specific tile material and outdoor conditions. They are familiar with industry standards and can ensure that the sealer is applied correctly and effectively. Additionally, professionals will thoroughly clean the tiles before sealing, removing any dirt, stains, or blemishes. This step is crucial as sealing over dirt or blemishes can lock them in, affecting the appearance and long-term durability of the tiles. By hiring a professional, you can have peace of mind that your outdoor tiles will be sealed to the highest standard, maximizing their protection and enhancing their overall aesthetic.

While sealing offers significant benefits such as easier maintenance and increased resistance to staining for tiles or stone surfaces, it is important to acknowledge that regular maintenance is still necessary. Sealing creates a protective barrier that allows contaminants to remain on the surface for a longer period, providing more time for cleaning before potential staining occurs. However, sealing does not make porous surfaces completely impervious to staining. While it significantly reduces the immediate risk of staining, it does not eliminate the need for regular cleaning. Utilizing appropriate stone cleaning products and maintaining a consistent cleaning routine are essential for preserving the condition and appearance of sealed tiles or stone surfaces. Regular maintenance remains crucial for ensuring the longevity and optimal condition of the surfaces, even after they have been sealed.

You can determine if your stone surface has been effectively sealed by conducting a water test. Pour a small amount of water onto the surface and observe its behavior. If the water is quickly absorbed into the surface, it indicates that the surface requires sealing as it is not adequately protected. However, if the water forms into small beads and remains on the surface without being absorbed, it suggests that the surface has been properly sealed and the sealer is providing the desired level of protection. This simple water test can help you assess the effectiveness of the seal and determine if any resealing is necessary to maintain the surface's protection and appearance.

Sealing pavers or stone alters their properties but does not have the ability to modify the surrounding environment. If you have a damp and shaded backyard, sealing the stone or pavers will not change those conditions. However, sealing reduces the porosity of the surface, which can inhibit the growth of algae and make cleaning easier. While it is worth considering sealing in most cases, it is important to understand that sealing alone may not completely eliminate algae growth if the environmental conditions are conducive to its development. Additional measures, such as regular cleaning and maintenance, may be necessary to effectively manage algae growth in such situations.

Tile sealing services typically do not come with guarantees. The lifespan of our Impregnating Water Based Sealers is approximately up to 10 years, depending on various factors such as the quality of the stone, traffic levels, and maintenance practices. It is essential to note that sealing does not create an impenetrable barrier, but rather provides a timeframe to address spills. While an unsealed floor can stain immediately, a sealed floor is resistant to staining and allows for a reaction time of 4-5 hours. A penetrating sealer is applied just below the surface of the stone, preventing spills from penetrating and staining the stone. However, it is unable to prevent acid-based spills (like red wine, vinegar, urine, fruit juice, etc.) from causing etching or burning on the stone surface, leading to a dull or frosty appearance. It is crucial to promptly clean up spills of this nature to prevent permanent damage to the stone surface.

In our services, Tile Cleaners® exclusively employs high-quality cleaners and sealers sourced from reputable industry suppliers. These products are carefully chosen to ensure their suitability and effectiveness for the specific task at hand. We prioritize using premium products to deliver optimal results in our cleaning and sealing services.

To preserve the fresh and new appearance of your surfaces, regular cleaning is crucial. Use a mild detergent or pH neutral cleaner to remove dirt, grime, and other contaminants that can accumulate over time. Avoid using harsh detergents or cleaning agents with high acidity or alkalinity, as they can potentially damage the sealer and affect the surface's appearance. By opting for mild detergents and pH neutral substances, you can effectively clean your surfaces without compromising the integrity of the sealer and ensure that they maintain their attractive appearance for extended periods.

The pricing structure for floor sealing services at Tile Cleaners® is typically determined based on the square meterage of each room. You can find a price list on the Tile Cleaners® website to get a comprehensive understanding of the costs involved. Before beginning the project, the team will measure each room and engage in a discussion with you to understand your specific requirements. They will then provide you with a detailed breakdown of the costs, ensuring transparency and clarity regarding the pricing information. This transparent approach allows you to have a clear understanding of the expenses associated with the floor sealing services and ensures that there are no surprises along the way.

When measuring the size of an area for floor sealing services, it is typically done by measuring each section individually. The process involves multiplying the width by the length of each section to calculate the area. For example, if a room has dimensions of 3 meters in length and 2 meters in width, the total area can be determined by multiplying 3 meters by 2 meters, resulting in a total of 6 square meters. This method ensures accurate measurement and calculation of the area size for proper pricing and service planning.

Tile Cleaning provides assistance with moving furniture during the floor sealing process. Their team of dedicated technicians is available to help with the relocation of furniture items that can be reasonably managed by one person, such as those with wheels or lightweight furniture like tables and chairs. However, it is important to keep in mind that while Tile Cleaning takes precautions to protect your belongings, they cannot be held responsible for any damages that may occur during the furniture moving process. To ensure the safety of valuable or fragile items, it is recommended to either relocate them to a secure area or properly secure them before the technicians arrive. By taking these necessary precautions, you can help ensure the safety of your furniture and minimize the risk of potential damage while the floor sealing process is being carried out.

To prepare for your floor sealing appointment, it is important to take necessary precautions. One crucial step is clearing the floor area by removing all furniture and items. This ensures a clean and unobstructed space for the professionals to efficiently carry out the sealing process. By ensuring that the floor is free from any objects, you can help facilitate a smooth and effective floor sealing experience. This preparation allows the technicians to access all areas of the floor and ensures optimal results in the sealing process.
