Testimonials

When I moved into my new house, I was shocked by how dirty and old the tiles in the entire house looked. I wasn't sure if they were supposed to be like that or if they were just really dirty. I decided to call Tile Cleaners and ask them to have a look and tell me what I could do to improve the look of my tiles. Tile Cleaners ® came the same weekend and managed to make my tiles look brand new. They also informed me that the sealer would protect my tiles for years to come. Amazing! Thank you guys! My floor looks gorgeous.

Amanda Burtender, Brighton East, VIC

I have several different freshly laid tiles in my new house. All pathways have stone tiles and there are marble tiles in the bathrooms and porcelain in the kitchen. I needed to get them sealed and was not sure if it was possible to seal them all. I contacted Tile Cleaners because my dad recommended them. He had a similar situation in his house and was very happy with the job Tile Cleaners had done. I was very worried about my tiles since they were brand new and very expensive. Tile Cleaners team were very patient with me, explaining how they were going to apply the sealer on different types of tiles, what sealer they would use, how long it would last for and advised me on how to take care of my tiles. I called Tile Cleaners a few times confirming details, asking for prices, making sure they could to the job during the weekend etc. The guys were amazingly patient and helpful. When I had gathered all the information I wanted, I was ready to go ahead. The work done by Tile Cleaners actually took less time than what it took me looking for information about it. Sorry for the pain I caused, and again thank you.

Monica Petrovski, West Beach, SA

Thank you Tile Cleaners ® for dealing with the solvent sealer I had and resealing my hallway; I know it's a pain but you did a great job. I will definitely call you again as I need help with my tiles in the office.

What is Granite?

The word granite comes from the Latin granum, or grain, and is formed deep underneath the earth's surface. It is a solidification of molten rock before it reached the surface and for this reason is extremely dense and difficult to etch or scratch. Geology texts report it is the most abundant rock found in the continental crust and becomes exposed in the cores of many mountain ranges in large areas known as batholiths. This exposure occurs when the overlying sedimentary rocks are eroded and the granite uplifted. It is the most common igneous rock used to make counter tops, tiles, pavers and cemetery monuments. It can bear a significant amount of weight, resist weather and polishes up brilliantly making it one of the most desirable and useful stones.

Its high cost is what reduces its popularity in construction use, with a significantly higher price tag than man-made materials. In major city projects and grand designs it is selected because of its prestige, elegance and durability.

Variations in Granite

It is hard to find two granites that are similar to each other. They are a beautiful, individual stone that come in a wide range of colours. Your tilers will ensure the entire batch is uniform before installing them but these variations can also allow for a unique finish to any property.

Most commonly it is thought of as having darker mottled tones of black or very dark grey, yet its is also available in lighter colours including white, beige, ivory, amber, pale grey and even shades of red, pink or orange.

Because granite is a heavier stone cost variations will rely greatly on the thickness of the cut.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Granite

Like any flooring, granite has good and bad features that should be considered when having it laid in your home or business. Some of its advantages include:

  • Rich, unique and striking natural colours and patterns
  • Durable and weather resistant
  • Does not etch or scratch easily
  • Easy to clean, for high traffic areas
  • Resists staining and grease
  • One of the most durable stones
  • Can take hot contents
  • Does not hold bacteria

Some of the disadvantages of granite include:

  • An expensive stone
  • Heavy in weight (underneath structure needs to be strong)
  • A cold stone (takes longer to warm under foot, and makes a room cooler)

Maintaining Granite

If you don't like cleaning, then granite should be your number one choice in flooring! In comparison to other tiles, granite is extremely easy to keep looking fresh and clean and at its best. For those areas of the house like kitchens and bathrooms that get dirty quickly and hold bacteria it's a great choice. Scratches and stains won't show on this hard wearing stone. It may cost a little more initially but it will save you money in restoration if the proper maintenance program is followed.

Sweeping and mopping the granite floor tiles daily with warm water will do the job. A Stone soap used once a week will ensure the shine remains. Although it is generally unaffected by chemicals, harsh products should be avoided nonetheless.

We provide specialised cleaning, stripping & sealing solutions for Granite floor & wall tiles.

Our equipment can handle both domestic and commercial cleaning jobs, leaving your floors spotless and bacteria free .

Frequently Asked Questions

If your granite floors start to appear dull or matte, even after regular cleaning, it is a clear sign that they require professional cleaning, stripping, and resealing. This indicates that the previous sealer has worn off, leaving the granite tiles vulnerable to staining and lacking their original luster. Additionally, if you notice that the granite tiles are staining easily, it further confirms the need for immediate resealing to prevent permanent staining. By addressing these signs promptly and engaging in the proper cleaning, stripping, and resealing processes, you can restore the beauty and protect the longevity of your granite floors.

At Tile Cleaners®, we prioritize the safety of our clients and utilize high-quality water-based products along with advanced cleaning machinery to ensure the best cleaning results without compromising the integrity of your granite tiles. When it comes to the stripping process of your granite tiles, Tile Cleaning prioritizes the use of high-quality non-solvent-based stripping and sealing products. These products are specifically designed to minimize mess and ensure the protection of your granite tiles and other surfaces in your home. With our current non-solvent-based strippers and techniques, there is no significant risk of damaging your walls or skirting boards. Rest assured, we prioritize cleanliness and take every measure to safeguard your walls, skirting boards, and other areas of your home throughout the stripping process.

They ensure that only non-toxic finishing agents are used, eliminating the presence of any potentially harmful substances or ingredients. Tile Cleaning takes great care in selecting cleaning products, specifically excluding any ingredients that could pose health risks. The purpose of stripping granite surfaces is to ensure that they are thoroughly cleaned and to remove as much of the old sealer as possible. By doing so, you can achieve the cleanest and most visually appealing results for your granite floors. After the stripping process, the cleaning procedure is carried out, followed by the application of a new sealer. This comprehensive process guarantees that your granite floors will appear fresh, clean, and rejuvenated once our professional team completes the job.

The process of stripping and sealing granite tiles involves removing the existing coating or sealer from the surface of the granite floor before applying a new sealant. Over time, granite flooring can become dull and lose its luster, which can negatively impact the overall aesthetics of the home. By undergoing the stripping and sealing process, you have the opportunity to restore the beautiful and radiant appearance of your granite tiles, effectively rejuvenating the flooring. This approach can save you the expense of replacing the entire flooring and instead breathe new life into your existing granite tiles.

When our professional team arrives to reseal your granite floors, they will provide a comprehensive explanation of the job processes, ensuring complete clarity about the procedures involved. The process begins with stripping any previous sealer that may have been applied. Next, the granite floor is meticulously cleaned and neutralized to remove any dust, residue, or other elements that could impact the effectiveness of the new sealer. Once the surface is dry, a fresh sealer is applied and allowed to set. The outcome of this process is a rejuvenated granite floor that not only looks new but is also protected, making it easier to maintain in the long run.

The frequency of sealing granite floors varies based on the type of sealer used and the level of foot traffic they experience. The Deepshield® range of impregnating water-based sealers in Australia, particularly Deepshield Gold® designed for denser surfaces like granite, can offer long-lasting protection for up to 15 years. In contrast, topical sealers generally have a lifespan of around 3 years. However, the actual duration may be influenced by factors such as high foot traffic or severe weather conditions for outdoor tiles, which could necessitate more frequent resealing. Additionally, the condition of the tiles themselves is a significant factor. If you notice patchy areas or easy staining, it may indicate the need for resealing. Feel free to reach out to us for further assistance with any inquiries related to sealing your granite tiles.

Not sealing granite floors can lead to potential issues due to their porous nature. Without proper sealing, the granite tiles can absorb liquids and be prone to staining from oily or harsh spills. These stains can penetrate the pores of the granite and become permanent, making them difficult to remove with regular domestic cleaning methods. By sealing your granite tiles, you can preserve their natural appearance, protect them against permanent staining, and prevent future accidental damage. Sealed granite floors maintain their beauty for a longer period and are easier to maintain and clean. Therefore, it is strongly recommended to seal your granite tiles to ensure they look their best and remain in optimal condition.

The ideal moment to seal your granite floors is right after their installation, as this helps prevent any potential accidental staining or damage. If you observe patchy sealed areas on your granite tiles or notice that they are becoming more prone to staining, these are clear indications that your granite floors are in need of sealing. By addressing these signs promptly, you can ensure the long-term protection and beauty of your granite floors.

Efflorescence can be a common issue with porous tiles like granite. It occurs when water in the granite carries salts to the surface as it evaporates. This process leaves behind a whitish coating and can damage the finish of the granite. To prevent efflorescence, it is recommended to seal your granite tiles with a high-quality water-resistant sealer. Additionally, identifying and addressing the source of water penetration, such as a water pipe leak or damaged grout, is crucial. By sealing the tiles and resolving any water-related issues, you can minimize the occurrence of efflorescence and maintain the quality and appearance of your granite floors.

Yes, we can remove the built-up efflorescence on your granite tiles. Efflorescence is a result of salt buildup and can be effectively treated using specialized cleaning techniques and efflorescence removers. It is important to note that efflorescence is often caused by underlying issues such as water leakage behind the granite tiles or damaged grout lines. Therefore, while we can remove the efflorescence, it is crucial to address and resolve the root cause to prevent its recurrence. Our team is experienced in identifying and addressing these underlying issues to provide a comprehensive solution for efflorescence removal and prevention.

To maintain the appearance of your granite tiles and keep them looking new, it is recommended to clean them weekly using a mild detergent. This will help remove any dirt or grime that may have accumulated on the surface. It is important to avoid using strong detergents with high acidity or alkalinity, as they can potentially affect the sealer on the granite. Instead, opt for mild detergents and pH neutral substances, which are safe and effective for cleaning granite tiles. By regularly cleaning your granite tiles with the proper cleaning agents, you can preserve their natural beauty and extend their lifespan.

Tile Cleaning charges for stripping and sealing granite tiles based on a per square meter basis for each separate room. To provide accurate pricing, the team will measure each room individually and discuss the scope of work with you. You can find a detailed price list on the Tile Cleaning website for your reference. Rest assured that all costs will be confirmed with you before the work commences to ensure transparency and clarity.

To accurately measure the size of a granite area, it is recommended to measure each area individually. The most straightforward method is to multiply the width of the area by its length. For instance, if a room measures 3 meters in length and 2 meters in width, the total area would be calculated as 3 multiplied by 2, resulting in a total of 6 square meters. By measuring each granite area separately and calculating the total square meters, you can ensure precise measurements for accurate pricing and planning purposes.

Tile Cleaning provides assistance with moving furniture during the floor sealing process. Their team of dedicated technicians is available to help with the relocation of furniture items that can be reasonably managed by one person, such as those with wheels or lightweight furniture like tables and chairs. However, it is important to keep in mind that while Tile Cleaning takes precautions to protect your belongings, they cannot be held responsible for any damages that may occur during the furniture moving process. To ensure the safety of valuable or fragile items, it is recommended to either relocate them to a secure area or properly secure them before the technicians arrive. By taking these necessary precautions, you can help ensure the safety of your furniture and minimize the risk of potential damage while the floor sealing process is being carried out.

To prepare for the cleaning of your granite surfaces, it is recommended to move all furniture and items off the floor. This allows the cleaning team to have unobstructed access to the granite surfaces and ensures that the area is ready for their arrival. By clearing the floor of furniture and items, you can facilitate a smooth and efficient cleaning process for your granite surfaces.

Is granite a suitable choice for kitchen countertops? Granite is highly durable and resistant to scratching, cracking, and staining. It is also heat-resistant, making it an excellent option for kitchen countertops. With its ability to withstand daily kitchen activities, granite is a reliable and long-lasting choice for your kitchen countertop.

Unfortunately, our services specifically focus on granite floors and walls, and we do not offer restoration work for benchtops.

Granite, like any solid surface, can be damaged by extremely hard blows that can cause chips on its surface. However, it is possible to repair such chips by filling them with a mixture of granite dust and epoxy. Under normal everyday use, granite is unlikely to crack, but it may be susceptible to cracking during shipping and installation. It is worth noting that granite is one of the hardest stones in the world, and it can only be scratched by another piece of granite or a specialized granite tool.
