Testimonials

We got our tiles more than 25 years ago. We were told that we had a solvent sealer on our tiles, which apparently most companies wouldn't be able to strip off. However we rang a couple of places to check them out. No luck. A friend of mine recommended Tile Cleaners. We rang the guys and they agreed to have a look the next day. We decided to go ahead with the job after getting a satisfactory quote. The Tile Cleaners team stripped and resealed our old tiles. We are very grateful for your help guys. Thank you again

Olivia and Andrew Clark, Hornsby, NSW

My mother's tiles were old and ugly, as she has been living in the same house her entire life without ever really taking care of her tiles. I called Tile Cleaners to get advice on what to do with them. They came to her house the next day to have a look at my mum's tiles. I am very satisfied with how patient and highly professional you were with my mother. I am sorry I couldn't be there when you arrived, and I am really impressed by how you managed to explain everything to my mom and help her out. Thank you for doing a great job.

We provide professional sealing services for ceramic tiles, offering solutions for both porous and glazed Ceramic tiles.

We cover all Sydney suburbs, all Western Sydney area and all surrounding suburbs to Oakhurst

Ceramic Tile Cleaning OakhurstCeramic tile is one of the most widely used products for flooring in Australia. Polished and colourful ceramic tiles housed within clean looking grout borders add a touch of sparkling charm to your home or business. Our team of ceramic sealing experts will protect your grout and tiles by using our quality sealers. We can seal ceramic tiles themselves or the grout lines between the tiles, protecting them and ensuring they are much easier to maintain. We will come to your home, office, shop or factory and get the job done quickly and professionally. Your ceramic tile & grout will continue looking great as well as remain protected for years to come.

Sealing Ceramic Tiles

We often get asked to recommend a sealer for ceramic tiles, the simple answer is if they are glazed then the tiles usually won't require sealing, but grout lines should always be sealed with a water based impregnating penetrating sealer, however if your ceramic tiles are porous then we recommend you seal the tiles and grout with a high quality impregnating water based sealer like Australian Deepshield™ Penetrating Sealer.

deepshield moisture ceramic

Certain varieties of ceramic tile will require an impregnating sealer to fill the micro pores on the tile surface. Australia's Deepshield™ Gold non-toxic sealer is specially designed to penetrate denser materials such as ceramic, porcelain, granite and marble, offering peace of mind by forming a barrier between the micro pores of your ceramic tiles against potential water and oil based stains, while preserving the tile's appearance and resulting in maintenance becoming easier.

Deepshield™ Gold impregnating sealer performs well on ceramic and porcelain tiles and also provides excellent protection to the typically cement based grout lines.

The first step in maintenance of ceramic tiles is the sealing of the tile (if porous) and the grout.

Sealing your ceramic tiles will keep most stains suspended at the surface, creating a barrier that provides protection against chemical attack, deterioration and contamination

deepshield breathe ceramic

Generally, glazed tile requires no sealer and some unglazed tile also requires no sealer. Know the type of tile you are installing. Test it with a small amount of water. If the surface darkens, it absorbs water and needs to be sealed.

Generally, cementitious grout requires sealing while specialty grouts like epoxy and furans do not. If the grout darkens with water, it also needs a sealer.

Many people seal their tile that is installed indoors to protect against everyday dirt, stains and wear. When sealing tile indoors a topical sealer is important in some types of softer tiles like saltillo (topical produces a surface coat). When using a topical sealer, a "wear layer" or "sacrificial coating" of acrylic floor finish should be applied in addition to the sealer. This "wear layer" of acrylic floor finish will keep you from wearing through the sealer and having to strip and reseal the entire floor.

Some Manufacturers have sealers that incorporate a sacrificial coating together with a penetrating sealer. This can be the best of both worlds. However, it is critical that you maintain this wear layer.

On indoor installations of hard, dense tiles or stones, many people select a penetrating sealer only. This type of sealer leaves no topical finish and therefore does not require a "wear layer" coating, but will give lasting protection from everyday dirt and stains.

The use of sealers on tile is an area that books could be written about, with all the options available and their relations to each other. We speak only in very general terms and keep in mind; there are exceptions to every rule. Our technicians throughout are fully trained and experienced on using different types of sealers and will make sure your job is done professionally.

You can once again enjoy your surfaces in the best possible condition

What is Ceramic Tile?

Ceramic Tile Cleaning OakhurstClay mud, mixed with various other natural minerals and materials, when dried and then “Fired”, combines forming a solid, hardened mass. Over the centuries people have learned to form the clay into tiles to be used for decoration or protection. Tiles can be painted using a coloured, powdered glass compound then “Fired” again causing the glass to melt to the surface of the tile. The “glazed” surface resists moisture and staining and works as a floor or wall surface because of those traits and the fact that it is highly durable.

The term “ceramic tile” is often used as a generic name for all types of man made tile. But the composition of true ceramic is very different from that of the other types. Since ceramic material is porous, the top surface is usually sealed with a glaze. The glazed surface is referred to as the design layer since it determines the tile's finished colour, design and texture. Glazed ceramic tiles are a popular option these days due their durability, water and scratch resistance. However, not all ceramic tiles are glazed.

Types of Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tile is categorised in many ways. At the most basic level, tiles come either glazed or unglazed. With unglazed tile, the colour runs throughout the tile body. The colour can be the natural earth tone of the clay itself, or the colour of a pigment that has been added to it before firing. Glazed tiles, on the other hand, have colour which has been added to the surface of the tile. The colour is applied to the tile after firing. The tile is then fired again to bond the glaze to the clay body. Glazed tiles range from a high gloss to a dull matte finish and come in a much wider range of colours, patterns and surface textures.

Glazed Ceramic Tiles

Glazed tiles should not be sealed. The glaze is the “sealer” and is far more permanent and resistant to wear than a sealer.

Glazed ceramic tile is very durable, and when properly installed and cared for, will last longer than any non-tile material used for the same purpose. It is also one of the easiest surfaces to clean, and because of its composition will not absorb odours, nor support allergens or bacteria. When coated with a Grade III or higher glaze, ceramic tile is highly resistant to scratching and moisture. Another important feature is that it will not burn, emit toxic fumes or scorch.

Glazed Ceramic Tiles are Easy to Maintain, however the grout lines should always be sealed to protect against discolouration

Unglazed / Natural Ceramic Tiles

Once you decide to install unglazed ceramic tile, you would need to decide whether sealing is required. This will depend on whether the tile is porous or not.

Sealing Grout Lines between Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic or porcelain tiles usually aren't a problem to keep clean, they are most often glazed and baked from the tile manufacturer and repel soil and stains extremely well. The problem, as we all know, IS the grout. And unfortunately most grout is not sealed, at all.

As soil soaks into unsealed or poorly sealed porous grout, it builds up and compacts. This impacted soil and grime has nowhere to go but on top of the existing dirt on the grout, causing layer upon layer of soiling inside the grout. When it's cleaned the traditional way with a mop and bucket, the embedded dirt is not fully removed – because it can’t be fully removed on unsealed or traditionally-sealed grout.

deepshield generic ceramic

Grout is an extremely porous sand based material that absorbs and holds stains easily. Just as tiles are sealed to protect them grout can also be sealed. Often if you have a ceramic or porcelain tile that doesn't need sealing you can overlook the need to seal the grout. However, for non-porous tiles, the grout tends to act as a magnet to any grime, dirt or mould. Mopping can just end up transferring grime into the porous grout. Sealing grout can also extend the life of your tiles as grout is the entry point for moisture that can lift tiles.

Tile Cleaners® have specialised methods to successfully seal grout lines, either on their own or as part of an entire surface seal. We strongly recommend that any newly laid porous tiles and grout be sealed immediately so the area gains the full benefit of the protection. Tiling is not an inexpensive exercise, so why not protect your investment?

Frequently Asked Questions

Sealing tiles and grout is essential to protect them from various factors that can cause deterioration and impact their appearance. Foot traffic, UV rays, moisture, chemicals, oil, grease, acids, and salt are among the culprits that can lead to problems like cracking, pitting, scaling, spalling, delamination, dusting, discoloration, efflorescence, and salt damage. To address these issues effectively, it is recommended to seal your tiles and grout using high-quality products like Australia's Deepshield™ deep impregnating range of sealers. Sealing provides excellent maintenance benefits by preventing unsightly stains, safeguarding against discoloration, and ensuring that your tiled floors maintain their optimal condition for an extended period. Applying a reliable sealer enhances the longevity and appearance of your tiles and grout, allowing them to withstand the test of time while preserving their visual appeal.

The lifespan of a sealer before reapplication is influenced by the type of sealer used. Topical sealers typically provide protection for approximately 3 years before requiring reapplication. In contrast, impregnating sealers are more durable and can last up to 15 years or even a lifetime when applied to vertical surfaces. However, areas with high foot traffic or frequent use may necessitate more frequent inspections and resealing to ensure ongoing protection. Conducting a water absorption test can help assess the porosity of the surface and aid in selecting a sealer with longer-lasting durability. It is advisable to refer to the guidelines provided by the manufacturer and consult professionals to determine the specific reapplication schedule suitable for your tiles and grout.

If the tiles themselves cannot be sealed, it is possible and highly recommended to seal only the grout lines. This is particularly important if the grout lines are light in color. Sealing the grout lines provides several benefits, including protection against stains and discoloration. By applying a sealer to the grout lines, you create a barrier that prevents dirt, moisture, and other contaminants from penetrating the grout, making it easier to clean and maintain. Additionally, sealing the grout lines helps to extend the lifespan of the grout, reducing the need for costly regrouting in the future. Therefore, focusing on sealing the grout lines is a practical and effective approach to preserving the appearance and durability of your tiled surfaces when the tiles themselves cannot be sealed.

The recommended frequency for fully resealing tiles can vary depending on factors such as the type and quality of the sealer used and the expected lifespan of the sealer. It is advised to regularly assess the condition of the tiles and evaluate the effectiveness of the existing sealer. If there are visible signs of wear, staining, or diminished protection, it may be necessary to undertake a complete resealing process. The specific timing for resealing will depend on these factors, and it is important to consistently monitor the tile's condition and consult the manufacturer's guidelines or sealer recommendations to determine the appropriate intervals for full resealing.

The drying time required for a sealer to fully cure can vary depending on the specific product being used. In general, most sealers have a relatively quick drying time, with the surface becoming touch-dry within approximately 4 hours. This applies to both penetrating sealers and topical sealers. Penetrating sealers typically complete their curing process within 24 hours, while topical sealers may take up to 48 hours to fully dry. It is crucial to carefully follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer regarding the recommended drying time. Doing so ensures that the sealer properly sets and provides the intended level of protection. Adhering to the specified drying time will help guarantee the longevity and effectiveness of the sealer on your tiles.

No, it is not possible to apply penetrating sealers over existing topical sealers. This is because topical sealers create a barrier on the surface of the material, preventing effective absorption of the penetrating sealer. To achieve the desired results, it is necessary to remove any existing topical sealer before applying a penetrating sealer. By removing the topical sealer, you allow the penetrating sealer to penetrate the material and provide the intended protection and benefits. Removing the topical sealer ensures the maximum effectiveness of the penetrating sealer and optimizes the overall sealing process.

To maintain a sealed surface effectively, it is recommended to use a pH neutral cleaner. This type of cleaner effectively removes dirt and grime without causing damage to the sealant. In case of spills, it is crucial to clean them promptly using clean water to prevent potential staining or residue. For regular maintenance and dust removal, using a microfiber mop is highly advised. The fine fibers of a microfiber mop efficiently capture dust particles, ensuring a clean and dust-free surface. By following these practices, you can help preserve the quality and appearance of your sealed surfaces.

When a surface appears dull or matte, despite regular cleaning, it may indicate the need for cleaning, stripping, and resealing. This loss of luster suggests that the previous sealer has worn off and is no longer providing adequate protection. Another indicator is an increased susceptibility to staining, as the surface is no longer effectively shielded. Recognizing these signs is crucial, as it allows for timely action to prevent permanent staining and to restore the surface's visual appeal. By addressing these indications promptly, through proper cleaning, stripping, and resealing, the surface can regain its beauty and maintain long-term durability.

Professional tile cleaning services, like Tile Cleaners®, understand the importance of safety and employ measures to mitigate potential risks. They use high-quality water-based products and advanced cleaning machinery to ensure effective cleaning solutions while safeguarding the integrity of the surfaces being treated. The purpose of floor stripping is to achieve the cleanest and most visually appealing results for your floors. When professionals perform this task, their objective is to meticulously remove the old sealer, ensuring a thorough process. This stripping sets the foundation for an effective cleaning procedure, followed by the application of a fresh sealer. By following this meticulous approach, the surfaces are revitalized, resulting in a pristine and immaculate appearance. Ultimately, the floor stripping process aims to deliver the freshest and cleanest outcome for your floors.

When discussing floors, the term "strip and seal" refers to a procedure where the existing coating or sealer on the floor surface is removed, and a new sealant is applied. Over time, floors can become dull and lose their shine, diminishing their visual appeal. By undergoing the strip and seal process, it is possible to revitalize the floors and bring them back to their original condition. This method provides a cost-effective solution for rejuvenating worn-out surfaces, making it a preferable alternative to complete floor replacement.

When our professional team arrives to seal your floors, you can expect a thorough and transparent process. We will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the entire process, ensuring effective communication. The sealing process typically begins with the potential removal of any previous sealer, if necessary. The floor will then undergo meticulous cleaning and neutralization to eliminate dust, residues, and other substances that could affect the performance of the new sealer. Afterward, a fresh layer of sealer will be applied, allowing sufficient time for it to set and cure properly. This will restore your floors to their original appearance while providing enhanced protection. Additionally, the sealed floor will be easier to maintain, reducing the effort required for routine cleaning and upkeep.

The recommended frequency for sealing floors can vary depending on factors such as the type of sealer used and the amount of foot traffic on the tiles. Deep impregnating water-based sealers, like Deepshield™ Gold, are known to provide long-lasting protection for up to 15 years. However, topical sealers typically require reapplication every 3 years, although this can be influenced by factors such as heavy foot traffic or harsh weather conditions. Regular assessment of the floor's condition is important, looking for signs like patchy areas or increased susceptibility to staining, as these may indicate the need for resealing. For personalized guidance and more detailed information, it is recommended to consult professionals or providers such as Australia's Deepshield™ for assistance and inquiries.

Neglecting to seal floors can leave them vulnerable to potential damage. Without proper sealing, spills containing oil or harsh substances can penetrate the surface, resulting in permanent stains that are difficult to remove using regular household cleaning methods. It is essential to prioritize sealing in order to protect the fresh appearance and structural integrity of your floors. Sealing creates a protective barrier that guards against permanent staining and helps prevent accidental damage in the future. By investing in floor sealing, you can extend the lifespan of your floors' optimal appearance and enjoy the benefits of easier and more convenient maintenance.

To determine the appropriate timing for sealing tiles, it is beneficial to adopt a proactive approach and seal them immediately after installation to prevent potential staining or damage. However, if you are considering sealing existing tiles, there are indicators to look out for. Keep an eye out for patchy areas on the floor where the sealer has worn off, or observe if the tiles are becoming more vulnerable to staining. These signs suggest that resealing is necessary to preserve the appearance of the tiles and provide effective surface protection.

Efflorescence is a phenomenon where salts migrate to the surface of porous materials during water evaporation, resulting in a whitish coating and potential damage to the surface finish. To effectively prevent efflorescence, it is crucial to apply a high-quality water-resistant sealer from a reputable range. However, it is important to note that efflorescence can also be influenced by factors such as water penetration. Therefore, it is essential to address any underlying causes of water penetration, such as repairing leaks or damaged grout, to effectively prevent efflorescence. By combining proper sealing with resolving the water source, proactive measures can be taken to minimize the occurrence of efflorescence and maintain the integrity of the surface.

Yes, it is possible to remove accumulated efflorescence from surfaces. We have the expertise and tools required for this task. Our process involves using effective efflorescence removers and employing specialized cleaning techniques. It is important to note that efflorescence is often caused by underlying issues such as leaks behind stones, tiles, or damaged grout lines. While we can successfully eliminate the visible efflorescence, it is crucial to address and resolve the root cause to prevent its reappearance in the future. By addressing both the efflorescence buildup and the contributing factors, we can restore the surface to its desired condition.

When selecting a sealer for tiles, it is crucial to consider factors such as the type of tile, its porosity, surface finish, and intended usage. Different tiles have varying levels of porosity and maintenance requirements. To ensure compatibility and provide optimal protection, it is important to take these factors into consideration when choosing a sealer. Seeking advice from professionals or tile sealing experts can help determine the most suitable sealer for your specific tile type and the conditions in which it will be used.

Typically, tiles receive 2 to 4 coats of sealer during the sealing process. However, the exact number of coats can vary depending on factors such as the desired finish and the specific characteristics of the tiles being sealed. Professionals consider these factors to determine the optimal number of sealer coats needed to achieve the desired outcome in terms of both appearance and protection for the tiles.

While sealing tiles creates a protective barrier that offers more time to clean up spills before they potentially stain the tiles, it does not guarantee absolute prevention of stains. It is important to promptly clean up spills and regularly remove dirt to minimize the risk of staining, even on a sealed surface. Sealing significantly reduces the likelihood of stains, but maintaining proper cleaning and maintenance practices is still crucial to keep your tiles in optimal condition.

The recommended waiting time before walking on sealed tiles and placing furniture back on them is typically around 4 hours. This allows the tiles to become touch dry, making it safe to walk on the surface and return most furniture items. However, it is important to avoid mopping the tiles or exposing them to moisture for at least 24 hours to prevent washing off the sealer. The sealer requires up to 24 hours to fully cure and provide optimal protection. It is also advisable to refrain from placing rugs on the floor for at least 24 hours, allowing the tiles to breathe until the sealer is completely cured. Following these guidelines ensures the best results and longevity of the sealer on your tiles.

The effect of sealing on the surface's appearance can vary depending on factors such as the type of sealer used and the number of coats applied. Different sealers can produce different visual outcomes for the tiles. Some sealers may enhance the natural color and sheen of the tiles, while others may result in a more subdued or matte finish. It is important to consider your desired outcome and consult professionals for guidance in selecting a sealer that aligns with your aesthetic preferences and goals for the surface's appearance. By discussing your requirements, you can choose a sealer that enhances the overall look of the tiles to your satisfaction.

Opting to hire a professional for tile sealing provides several benefits. Professionals possess the expertise and experience to choose the appropriate sealer type based on industry standards and the specific requirements of your tiles. They can also ensure a thorough and professional cleaning of the tiles before the sealing process. This step is crucial because sealing over dirt and imperfections can lead to the sealer trapping these blemishes, potentially affecting the desired outcome. By relying on professionals, you can have peace of mind, knowing that your tiles will be expertly cleaned and sealed using the appropriate techniques, ultimately resulting in optimal and long-lasting results.

While sealing offers significant benefits such as easier maintenance and increased resistance to staining for tiles or stone surfaces, it is important to acknowledge that regular maintenance is still necessary. Sealing creates a protective barrier that allows contaminants to remain on the surface for a longer period, providing more time for cleaning before potential staining occurs. However, sealing does not make porous surfaces completely impervious to staining. While it significantly reduces the immediate risk of staining, it does not eliminate the need for regular cleaning. Utilizing appropriate stone cleaning products and maintaining a consistent cleaning routine are essential for preserving the condition and appearance of sealed tiles or stone surfaces. Regular maintenance remains crucial for ensuring the longevity and optimal condition of the surfaces, even after they have been sealed.

The pricing structure for floor sealing services at Tile Cleaners® is typically determined based on the square meterage of each room. You can find a price list on the Tile Cleaners® website to get a comprehensive understanding of the costs involved. Before beginning the project, the team will measure each room and engage in a discussion with you to understand your specific requirements. They will then provide you with a detailed breakdown of the costs, ensuring transparency and clarity regarding the pricing information. This transparent approach allows you to have a clear understanding of the expenses associated with the floor sealing services and ensures that there are no surprises along the way.

When measuring the size of an area for floor sealing services, it is typically done by measuring each section individually. The process involves multiplying the width by the length of each section to calculate the area. For example, if a room has dimensions of 3 meters in length and 2 meters in width, the total area can be determined by multiplying 3 meters by 2 meters, resulting in a total of 6 square meters. This method ensures accurate measurement and calculation of the area size for proper pricing and service planning.

Tile Cleaning provides assistance with moving furniture during the floor sealing process. Their team of dedicated technicians is available to help with the relocation of furniture items that can be reasonably managed by one person, such as those with wheels or lightweight furniture like tables and chairs. However, it is important to keep in mind that while Tile Cleaning takes precautions to protect your belongings, they cannot be held responsible for any damages that may occur during the furniture moving process. To ensure the safety of valuable or fragile items, it is recommended to either relocate them to a secure area or properly secure them before the technicians arrive. By taking these necessary precautions, you can help ensure the safety of your furniture and minimize the risk of potential damage while the floor sealing process is being carried out.

To prepare for your floor sealing appointment, it is important to take necessary precautions. One crucial step is clearing the floor area by removing all furniture and items. This ensures a clean and unobstructed space for the professionals to efficiently carry out the sealing process. By ensuring that the floor is free from any objects, you can help facilitate a smooth and effective floor sealing experience. This preparation allows the technicians to access all areas of the floor and ensures optimal results in the sealing process.
